What discord could've done to prevent this is simply take down the deployment of the micro service for that nitro scheme. If discord starts banning accounts, that would be shameful. And discord has no room to ban users for that. And what do they even expect in return for being careless? Users would DEFINITELY exploit this bug to the limits, literally limits. Discord was a bit careless here, they did check the CC with Luhn's algorithm but did not do any kind of validation further. These are the types of practices companies should use in order to prevent fake CCs. Once the user logs in to their AWS account, they refund that $1. If you have ever heard of AWS (Amazon Web Services), they first check the CC using Luhn's Algorithm and then charge a testing fee of $1 to check if the entered CC is valid. Its basically, "You make a bug, we exploit" and that is exactly how platforms would learn to be more concerned about not missing out on edge cases like this one. Btw, a test case is exactly what is sounds like, it is basically testing the software for bugs before deploying it publicly.ĭiscord's software team made a mistake and that is not something users should get banned for. What happened here is the developers at discord who created the code base for this nitro thing missed an edge test case. What I think of this is as follows (feel free to correct me if im wrong anywhere):ĭiscord would never ban any accounts that used fake cc because its not the users' mistake/crime.
